Baphomet is an archetype that represents perfect unity. Male/Female, Human/Animal, As Above/So Below, Light/Dark, Good/Evil, etc. Thought to be worshipped by the Knights Templar, the first known and most popular depiction was commissioned by Eliphas Levi. The image was also used by several members of The Golden Dawn, until eventually being "adopted" by Anton Lavey as the logo for his Church of Satan.
